AXE-FX tuner and LF Jr. set-up

Postby Ventanaman on Fri Oct 23, 2009 12:12 pm

I am trying to setup my LFJr. to display Axe-Fx tuner info when the menu button is held for 2 seconds. I believe I have the correct programming, but I cannot get it to (so obviously I don't have it right). I can't even get the Menu hold IA function to trigger the tuner IA on the Axe display, even though I believe I have the correct CC's paired on the tuner and the AXE. I was able to successfully program my patches and other IA's, so I am not a complete noob, but I am having some difficulties with this function.

Can anyone help with a step-by-step instruction on how to properly do this? It would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked out the video that Jeff put up?

I know it doesn't have the IA Hold section, but you simply set that in the Global Menu. Set IA Hold 2 Sec to the IA Switch you have configured to be the tuner. For me I set IA 64 to be my tuner. I then put that as the value for the IA HOLD 2 SEC. Works beautifully. If you still have problems after that, let me know I will make a video for you.

Thanks for the link. I had forgotten there were videos available.

I was able to get everything set up ... except the LFJr won't display the dynamic tuner info. It successfully changes into tuner mode, but it is as if the AXEFX is not sending out the data. I doubled checked to make sure I set my I/O settings correctly, but I am obviously missing something.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is how it works for me:
Switch type: STOMP
ON commands:
01 M01 AXE-FX C:B 1:xxx 2:127 (CC xxx ON)
02 Special *SP* 1:000 2:000 (special Tuner)
03 M01 AXE-FX C:B 1:xxx 2:000 (CC xxx OFF)
OFF commands:
nothing

don't forget on your axe-fx:
I/O - MIDI: Send realtime sysex ON
I/O - CTRL: Tuner CC

I am trying to do this as well ...in the editor :

I went into the editor I globally changed Menu hold 1A #1 to 1A switch number 10 .I clicked hold for 2 seconds
I went into 1A switch # 10 and
clicked stomp
command #1 ..........CC#............AXE FX.............15.........127
command #2........special...........TUNER...........................15
command#3...........CC#.............AXE FX.............15............0

I press and hold the menu button for 2 seconds nothing happens .I also tried this with making command #2 0 instead of 15 but didn't help. This was all under midi on . nothing done under off .I also tried switching from Stomp to momentary .

Still no luck with me.

I have been through the steps several times and it seems either the AFX isn't sending the tuner info or the LF isn't receiving it.

Any other suggestions???

its switch type QUICK-TAP --- NOT STOMP OR MOMENTARY.

In the global menu, set both the MENU 2S and 3S to the same switch #. This way no matter how long you hold the menu key it will trigger the tuner.

if you followed these instructions and the tuner displays- but doesn't update--- then make sure you have Send Tuner info turned on in the AXE. Also make sure you have a MIDI OUT cable (from AXE-FX) plugged into the MIDI IN on the LF. (or have a single 7 pin cable connected between the two).

That is probably the issue. I am running a 5 to 7 pin cable with with power plug-in on the 5 pin end. I will get a dedicated 7 pin cable and report back. I thought only power was sent on the extra two pins.

I am using a 7-pin cable and although my Tuner comes on with the Menu button hold, it does not engage on my Axe-FX. I have to do it manually.

So I connected 7 pin to 7 pin and the tuner is working perfectly. Thanks for everyone's help. The only negative is that I can no longer use my midi-merge for the AXE-FX input (it only accepts 5 pin cables) from my computer.

Now if I could just get my Boss FS-5U to work as a tap tempo on the exp1 port, that would be great.

String - you need to setup an IA switch (IA-64 for example) to trigger the tuner on whatever CC# you decide on. Then, you configure the menu button to trigger that IA switch (64) - NOT the CC# the tuner is on.When you hold the menu button you are not sending a midi command, but triggering the IA which then sends the command - 2 distinct steps. I know it is frustrating, but keep at it.
